The Story in Brief
Michael Kors operates over 600 stores globally, with multiple registers in many locations and high transaction volumes throughout the day.
In busy retail environments like this, manual cash counting began to slow down key moments in the day. Morning floats took longer to prepare. Mid-day cash pick-ups disrupted service. Shift changes pulled associates away from the shop floor.
The goal was to reduce time spent handling cash, without adding complexity, and give store managers a simple, reliable way to document every count.

The Challenge
As store volumes grew, the limits of manual counting became harder to ignore. What worked in quieter stores became inefficient at scale.
Across stores with five to eight tills, even minor delays added up. Preparing floats took too long, cash pick-ups disrupted service, and recounts created extra work. Inconsistent documentation also made it harder for managers to check accuracy quickly.
Most importantly, store associates were spending valuable time on repetitive cash tasks instead of serving customers, a clear drawback in a premium retail environment.
Michael Kors needed a solution that would bring more speed and structure to cash handling without adding complexity. It had to be simple for store teams to use, quick to roll out, and reliable across multiple locations.
Slow manual counting
Disruptive cash processes
Less time for customers
The Solution
Michael Kors started with a focused 45-day trial in three stores across New York, Florida, and Texas.
The trial gave the business a chance to assess the impact in live store environments while keeping rollout simple and controlled. Cashmaster worked closely with store operations managers to review existing processes and identify where time could be saved.
Training was kept straightforward. Short, practical sessions helped associates start using the devices quickly, with minimal disruption to daily operations.
At the heart of the solution was Cashmaster One Max, supported by Cashmaster Printer One.
Cashmaster One Max gave store teams a faster, more consistent way to count notes, coins, and rolls. It also supported float preparation and structured count storage, with each count recorded against relevant identifiers for a clearer daily record.
Printer One added an important final step. Immediate report printing made it easier for managers to verify and sign off counts at the point of count, reducing follow-up checks and improving accountability.
Although teams had no previous experience with count-by-weight devices, adoption was quick. The touchscreen interface felt familiar, the process was easy to follow, and the system soon became part of the daily routine.
The Outcome
Following a successful trial, Michael Kors rolled out the solution across its highest-volume stores.
Results were immediate. Cash handling became faster, more consistent, and less disruptive. Floats, cash pick-ups, and end-of-day tasks were completed more efficiently.
Printed reports gave managers a clear audit trail, making counts quicker to verify and reducing the need for recounts.
Most importantly, store associates spent less time counting cash and more time supporting customers, critical in a luxury retail environment.
